On December 23, 2019 my life drastically changed. I woke up felt really tired and f elt weakness on my right side. I decidedto go back to bed and rest. I woke up 15 hours later, couldn't move my legs, torso and right arm. I called my Husband asked Him to call the ambulance to go to the hospital. My diagnosis; Left temporal CVA:

  • "The temporal lobe is the second largest lobe in the brain and is one of the lobes that help make up the cerebral cortex. This lobe is located in each hemisphere, or half, of the brain and sits behind the ears in the lower region of the brain.

  • The brain’s temporal lobe plays a key role in processing auditory input, acquiring and retaining memory, and understanding language. Additionally, the temporal lobe plays a valuable part in our emotions and social interactions. Overall, this area of the brain is responsible for many different functions. Therefore, a stroke in the temporal lobe can be accompanied by a wide variety of secondary effects, Poor Memory, Inability to Recognize Faces (Prosopagnosia),Impaired Speech (Fluent Aphasia), Difficulty with Visual Perception, Trouble Processing Sound, Emotional and Behavioral Changes  .

Temporal lobe stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the temporal lobe becomes obstructed (ischemic stroke), or bursts (hemorrhagic stroke). Blood is rich in oxygen, which fuels cellular activity. When the brain doesn’t receive a sufficient supply of blood, those brain cells start to die and the affected areas of the brain will begin to lose function.." Flintrehab

  • One year in my Post-Stroke Journey I endeavored to work on the preventative. I choose my weaknesses and began on building them into strengths ultimately wanting other Stroke Survivors to know that I would “listen” when no one else would.

  • Thus, the "New Me", was created. My Strengths, researching abilities, knowledge seeking, humility, support and faith as well as allowing and accepting every emotion to venture through the valleys, ditches, mountains and solid ground. It is by no means easy but like minded individuals with strokes, disabilities sharing their stories listening and validating make the journey lighter. "Never give up"
